The Directors of H2O Aquatics limited are delighted to agree a deal with Wolle and Susanne Hambitzer to supply their Reef Ceramic products in the UK. Having visited the factory we have seen first hand the care and detail that goes in to making this great product, we are 100% certain that no other ceramic rock currently on the market comes close. One of the main bonuses of this product is its uniqueness and customization options. Our ceramic is made of clay and contains only natural additives. It has a natural looking structure and the color is marbled beige. Over a period of time the ceramic colours up just like live rock does leaving a very natural looking reef. Every piece is handmade and unique. After forming and drying it is burned by high temperature. The ceramic goes after burning into a special flushing to minimize the risk against absorbing hazardous substances as phosphate, silicate… One of the potential problems you can encounter with ceramics is the leaching of Silicates over a period of time, on testing we found this period is nearly non-existent with Reef Ceramic from Riffsystem. One other point of note is at first the Ceramic will absorb kH, and the tank will show low readings. The levels need to be monitored and adjusted just like any normal start up system but the rate of usage will be higher for the first few months. Yes, it is possible to run a tank only with ceramic-constructions. However starting up will take longer than with live rocks but the tank would run more stable afterwards. We should mention that tanks with ceramic are nutrient-poor, great for those who follow the Ultra Low Nutrient theme of systems. It is also worth mentioning that of course no pests are introduced in to the aquarium with Ceramic rock. We advice our customers that they can place live rocks into the sump if they want to start up faster. Or what a lot of customers do is use 95% ceramic rock in the display and 5% live rock, because the ceramic is very porous the bacteria’s and faunas soon spread throughout the system. You can of course use bacterial cultures to help out at the start up phase. Many companies such as Korallen Zucht, Fauna Marin and Microbe Lift to name but a few produce these types of product. We have had excellent results with using Microbe Lift Nite Out II and Special Blend to provide starting up bacterial cultures. With ceramic you will also get an alga phase – same as with living rocks. The back wall plates reach out in the tank between 10 cm and 30 cm and you have lots of space where you can place corals. All plates can be customized exactly to the measurements you require for your tank. Many people opt to have plates covering weirs for a very natural look. The installation of those plates is very easy. You only have to place one silicone seam line on the top. This makes sure that the ceramic does not move and way more important, that you will never have fish entrapped behind it!! If you place several plates next to each other, you will only have a few Millimeters gap between the plates. This you can close very easy with our ceramic glue. The pillars have a very open structure so that fish have the maximum possible swimming space, current flows are not blocked and at the same time they still offer plenty of places to add corals too. With bridges in different sizes you can easy connect the pillars under each other or with the back wall-Plates so that you can create an illusion of the tank being much deeper front to back than it actually is. After you found out which Position of the bridge you would like most you only have to glue it in place with our Ceramic-Glue for a permanent fix. Because the ceramic is handmade we can create custom sizes to fit any application. We can also produce back-wall plates where you can cover items such as Tunze Waveboxes or Stream pumps.
